Bridge Builder Excellence Program
This is a program was developed between the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame (SCFHOF) and the South Carolina Department of Commerce (through the Greenville Regional Workforce Advisor, Jay Blankenship) in order to educate and speak to football players (and other students) as they make a transition to their next step throughout their K-12 journey. We are developing strategic relationships with the educational and business community in order to present students with the tools they need to be successful.
In 2019, U.S. News.com ranked SC students 43rd nationally in college and career readiness. As such, many students are being left behind and our communities are struggling. The Bridge Builder Excellence Program educates, empowers, and encourages excellence in our SC students to be successful in their college, career, and life endeavors.
With the help of our communities, we can lead SC students to the Top 10 in college and career readiness by December 31, 2030.
The SCFHOF connects distinguished football players and businessmen to this program as spokespeople for this message and education in order to give back to our community and make for a better city, county, and state! Program was launched in the Fall of 2018 in Greenville County.
In 2018, 250 Greenville County students attended ACT and SAT Prep Courses through our collaboration with Jay Blankenship. In 2019, we dedicated one-on-one time with local Greenville County student athletes through lunch and learn events. In 2020, we honored our inaugural Bridge Builder Excellence Award winner and we incorporated student leadership advise through our Inside Blitz w/ Levon Kirkland Podcast through student interviews and "QuickHits" segments. These digital communication strategies are planned to continue through 2021 and 2022.
